Dr Dean David Mobbs PhD. I am a Storyteller, Social researcher, Teacher, Lecturer, Artist and practicing Writer, living on Larrakia Country in Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia. My educational journey involves extensive higher degree education and teaching, tertiary study, and ongoing professional development. I hold a qualification as a chef, a teaching degree in Primary Education with Honours from Charles Sturt University (NSW), a Bachelor Degree in Creative Arts, a. a Masters of Philosophy (English) from The University of Newcastle (NSW). I recently completed my PhD project Sleeping Dogs and Ashes: Love as Law – Marriage as Metaphor: Welfare Ordinances and Discrimination in Australia 1955 – 1965 –– through Charles Darwin University (NT). My research focuses on Australian historical fiction, Interracial relationship, Intimacy, Collective knowledge, Cultural understandings, and Indigenous research methodologies. I do so as a non-Indigenous researcher, identifying experiences of interracial connection and stages of intimacy on Country. I have written and published two novels, The Expressionist (2015) and Dancing on a Pin (2017). I aim to share, teach, learn and facilitate to fulfil my full professional potential. I am informed by a passionate desire to share a sense of hope, confidence, and empowered knowledge for the productive betterment of society.

I work as a storyteller, creative writer, lecturer and researcher based in beautiful Darwin. I strive to engage in creating connected contributions within society through positive social contracts. I encourage self-direction and facilitate positive change for all storyholders by continually writing, teaching, planning, programming, advising, researching, consulting, educating and lecturing in the areas of Creative writing, Social science, Teacher education, Cultural capabilities, Collective knowledge and First Nations Australia.
My career direction aspires to the publication of my doctoral research, creative fiction, non-fiction, literary studies and theoretical insights. I strive to explore my on-going status toward becoming the kind of highly skilled writer, researcher, educator and mentor that impacts society in a positive, creative and developmental manner in all my professional undertakings with storyholders.
